The School of Labour Studies invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of senior Assistant Professor to  Associate Professor commencing July 1, 2016. This will be a joint appointment with another academic department within the Faculty of Social Sciences as appropriate to the candidate’s area of interest.

Labour Studies is an interdisciplinary programme. We offer a full range of undergraduate degrees, an MA in Work & Society and have established educational links with labour and community groups. A proposal to begin a PhD in Labour Studies in July 2016 has been approved by McMaster University and is currently under review by the Ontario Government. As an interdisciplinary subject area, Labour Studies focuses on all forms of work (paid and unpaid) and links the work experience with gender, racialization, state regulation, labour markets, migration, education, consumerism, mass media, environment, aging, family life, the community and globalization. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who works in an emerging area of Labour Studies, has a commitment to interdisciplinary work and is an accomplished scholar.

Responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, supervision of graduate students, and building links with community and labour groups.  The successful candidate must have a proven record of administrative leadership and research excellence and will be expected to attract external research funds and carry out an independent research programme leading to peer-reviewed publications.  Candidates should have an interdisciplinary approach to studies in work issues, labour and society and must have a PhD in a relevant discipline.
