This is an opportunity to join the team working on research into the platform/gig economy as part of a 3-year project funded by the European Union and led by the University of Bologna under the Horizon 2020 Programme on “Platform Labour in Urban Spaces: Fairness, Welfare, Development (PLUS)“.
Led by Ursula Huws, Professor of Labour and Globalisation at Hertfordshire Business School at the University of Hertfordshire, this project builds on existing research into virtual work (COST Action IS1202, The Dynamics of Virtual Work) and the implications of the digital revolution on the labour market (the Digital Footprint project which is carrying out surveys across Europe).
We are looking for someone to undertake various research, writing, editing and administrative duties. This will include literature reviews, data and information gathering, qualitative fieldwork, policy analysis, data analysis, report-writing, editing and dissemination activities, attending project meetings and assisting with the organisation of workshops, conferences and other events related to the project, liaising with administrators, etc.
You should have knowledge and experience of qualitative research methods, including awareness of ethical issues, interest in and knowledge of the academic and policy-related literature and data sources on platform labour in the UK and in Europe, the ability to analyse and interpret qualitative and quantitative data and policy documents and transform research outputs into high quality reports and publishable articles along with administrative experience and experience of carrying out fieldwork involving key informant interviews. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or have relevant work experience.
