Summary: Are you interested in working for a top-ranked Management School which has achieved accreditation from the three largest and most influential business school associations: AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS? With world-class facilities, ground-breaking research and cutting-edge thinking, we are seeking applications from ambitious, highly motivated and talented individuals who will be keen to play an active role in maintaining and enhancing the Management School’s international reputation for research, teaching excellence and innovation. We are seeking to recruit a Research Associate to join the ‘Work, Organisation and Employee Relations Research Centre (WOERRC) to work on a research project concerned with exploring the impact of technology and digitalisation on work and employment in the logistics sector. This research project will be concerned with exploring the impact of technology and digitalisation on the labour process of logistics workers at the end of the supply chain in warehousing and parcel delivery. The project will be concerned with exploring the role technology plays not only in monitoring the movement of products, but also the management of labour and the labour process. Within warehouse work issues to be explored may include how is greater automation (and possibly the introduction of robotics) impacting upon the nature and experience of work? For parcel delivery workers the project will explore how technology and digitalisation offers the possibility of closer surveillance, reduced autonomy and tighter performance management for atomised workers. How trade unions are responding to the impact of technology and digitalisation within the sector will also be of concern. You will take a pro-active role in enhancing our reputation for high quality research. You should be capable of delivering first class research that combines theoretical sophistication with impact. The post may involve some international travel. You will have a PhD in a relevant social science subject (or equivalent experience), excellent interpersonal skills, IT skills, have previous relevant work experience in managing large complex projects, and be able to work as part of a team.
