The School of Labor and Employment Relations at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty appointment. This position’s primary focus would be the School’s statewide labor education program. The position’s responsibilities would also include teaching in the School’s resident instruction or online degree programs. Appointment would be at the appropriate Teaching Professor rank or as a Professor of Practice (the latter requires significant experience as a practitioner). The position will be a twelve-month appointment and will include a three-year renewable contract. The position will be located at the University Park Campus. Start date is on or before August 15, 2018
The School of LER is committed to providing union members and leaders with educational opportunities, both through non-credit training programs and through online undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The School also has high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs at the University Park campus. Candidates should have experience working with unions on the planning, development, and delivery of labor education programs, as well as the ability to teach non-credit training programs for union members. They should also be able to teach online and residential credit courses in one or more of the following areas: labor history, the American labor movement, labor law, collective bargaining, international employment relations, or other areas related to work, labor and employment.
Because of the nature of this work, applicants should be willing to travel and participate in evening and weekend programs. Applicants must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant field to be appointed at the appropriate teaching professor rank. A Master’s degree is preferred for appointment at the professor of practice rank.
