The Department of Labour Studies invites applications for the following teaching position in Spring 2018 session:

Course Number& Name – Labour Studies 1A03 – An Introduction to the Canadian Labour Movement

Number of Units Per Section: 3

Term: Spring Term; 30/04/2018 to 15/06/2018

Location – Central Campus

Start time & duration: 3 hours, Tuesday & Thursday, 11:30am-2:20pm

Projected TA support: 0

Projected Enrolment: 50 (capped at 50)

Wage Rate* $7191: (per 3 unit course)

Course Description:

An examination of the impact of economic, social, cultural and political factors on the historical evolution, structure and actions of the Canadian working class and labour movement

Required Qualifications:

A PhD or ABD is preferred, although applicants with MA’s and teaching experience (either in post-secondary institutions or in the labour movement) will be considered.  Applicants should have an interdisciplinary approach to labour issues.

Course Description:

This course explores the way that governments shape and regulate the labour market, the workplace and the lives of workers, and the ways that workers organize collectively to advocate for policy change. Issues explored include un/employment insurance, social assistance, education and training, job creation and industrial policy, employment standards, immigration, pay and employment equity, child care, and retirement
